Hideo Shimizu and Karbony at MDW 2026
The collaboration between Hideo Shimizu and Karbony takes shape around a shared exploration of the relationship between material, space and perception.
The collaboration between Hideo Shimizu and Karbony takes shape around a shared exploration of the relationship between material, space and perception.
For Milan Design Week 2026, Shimizu developed Infinity-Bio as part of the Infinity project at Superstudio Design: a freestanding bathtub conceived as a space for contemplation and inspired by the Japanese culture of ofuro.
His vision interprets bathing not simply as a function, but as a ritual of wellbeing and regeneration, creating an environment in which water, light and silence become integral elements of the design.
Within this landscape, Karbony translates Shimizu’s research through its own material language. Suspended carbon-fiber elements generate delicate plays of light and shadow, while modular structures inspired by traditional Japanese screens filter the space and create subtle layers of transparency.
The encounter between Hideo Shimizu’s design sensibility and Karbony’s material research gives rise to an environment in which carbon fiber moves beyond its technical dimension to become architecture, atmosphere and a tool for shaping perception.
